Sculpture
The sculptures and installations in this slideshow are created with hundreds of hand folded cranes and modular units that join together to make a sculpture or installation.
-
The Swans - Using hundreds of triangles with no glue needed to construct it as it slots together with pockets like Lego, were created at The Handmade Fair, Hampton Court Palace, London.
-
Peace Tapestry - The installation using light projection is of the origami peace crane, hand folded from the bible, with photographs of stained glass shadows cast on the floor of the Bayeux Cathedral, France, aptly named 'Peace Tapestry'.
-
The Book Bouquet - Kusudama flowers, made from the pages of the book, on display as part of a three month long exhibition at Libraries Unlimited, Barnstaple, North Devon, including a family workshop, masterclass, and 'Library Lates' themed activities and events.
This work uses origami as a basis for creating conceptual or place-based art to explore topics of fact, fiction, faith, history, tradition, legend, religion, ritual, routine, purpose, connection...These are all areas of interest, exploration, and intrigue that spark ideas for Caroline's work and project collaborations.
Jewellery
Wearable Origami Art
These origami lockets feature a tiny hand-folded origami crane within a unique double-sided pendant. The origami crane is a symbol of peace, love and longevity for the wearer to enjoy, making a perfect addition to any wardrobe as a treat for yourself or loved one, for a special gift, first wedding anniversary 'paper' celebrations or even decorations.
Each pendant is created using 3 different Japanese paper prints giving the wearer a choice of colours to suit their wardrobe. The Japanese origami paper ‘washi’ is renowned for its durable qualities, as is the pendant itself being made from stainless steel and glass.
Pendant detail:
Made from stainless steel, one of the strongest metals, which has high resistance to rust, corrosion and tarnishing, this product requires minimal maintenance. Not only this, but stainless steel is one of the most bio-compatible metals, so stainless steel jewellery is amazingly hypoallergenic because of its anti-allergic properties. This pendant, together with the design and properties of ‘washi’ paper, make this product the perfect gift or fashion accessory to complement any wardrobe.
